Matt Nelson

My day job is being a freelance WordPress designer, a SEO consultant and the owner and founder of MadTown SEO and GrowMadison, which provides hands-on technology workshops run by local experts. I’m also launching a start-up.

My most memorable caffeine was the coffee that helped me get through late nights in college. I was a philosophy major and no one can figure out Kant unless they have a lot of caffeine!

My current caffeine of choice is straight black, preferably French roast.

My favorite place for caffeine is Michelangelo’s (which is near my office at 100State) or Café Zoma.

The person I’d love to share a cup of caffeine with is Elon Musk. He wants to take all of humanity to Mars—how cool is that? Musk made the electric car a reality, he’s incredibly ambitious and I’d love to pick his brain. He’s famous for saying “I wish it wasn’t so hard,” and I think of that whenever I’m trying to solve a problem related to technology or one of my business ideas. I can completely relate to that thought—but it’s also a good reminder that whatever I’m doing is manageable compared to what Musk has accomplished.

World problem that could be solved with the right amount of caffeine: Knowing what’s in our water. It’s pretty terrifying to think about the chemicals and substances that we’re exposed to through the water system—even in the U.S. where we tend to take our water safety for granted. Look at Flint, Michigan: Their former water source was so corrosive that it leached chemicals from the pipes as it flowed through and caused enough damage that the entire pipeline has to be replaced. Children there have been poisoned by the water coming out of their taps!
